भक्ताः एकान्तिनो मुख्याः ... नारद भक्ति सूत्र ६७ ।

The bhakta who prefers solitude is the best.

Why shouldn't he go about telling others of the benefits of bhakti ?

The one who pervades all, needs none for his help. And he choses the one, anyone he wants to make as means to his end. The attempt to 'do', to act, as if one is independent of 'Him' goes against the premise of bhakti itself. If he wishes, that wish doesn't require a 'wll' of one's own and in the surrenderd self, what happens is a joy of existence. It is not aimed at anything, no goals, no reasons for action, just a joy of defining oneself in the act of action as a self who is surrenderd to 'Him'.

In duality, in the presence of the other, any other human being, not in physicality but in the impression on the senses, the core of all, the mind, acts so as to define onself in relation to the other present. And often creates demarcations in negation or acceptance to the others characteristics. Like, one being a male in front of a female, one being a good sadhak in response to a bad person etc. But this defining of the self is also creting the self and an ego which forbids surrender. Solitude, is thus essential. For one needs none in order to be with the 'One'.

And that bhakta is the best who seeks none. Seeks nothing. Exactly in reverbration of "Sarvadharmparityajya" ... Gita , Leaving every sense of an action originating from the self. Helives with him and is bothered about nothing and cares for nothing. A true lover mad in the joy of remembrance of his beloved !

Hare Krishna!

Can we say that if a person manages to live in solitude,he is a devotee?

eeDo we have any external measure that gurantees that someone is a bhakta... the meausre can be prescriptive about the bhakta life.. it cannot be descriptive.. and hence all are prescriptions. Else who else can describe the criteria if Krishna himself does not in Geeta!
